Crazy
Crazy lurked inside each inhalation.
Exhaling soothed her nerves, but not for long.
When her heart nearly stopped,
so broken and bent,
sanity fought for a place to belong.
She inhaled crazy’s scent, ever nearby preying,
for a weak spot of entry the foe ever prowled.
It’s familiar odor lived in her nostrils,
unwanted,
it’s stench overly ripe and befouled.
She quickened her pace and pushed forward.
“Damned if you’ll catch me”, she taunted her foe.
“I have ditched you before, I will ditch you again.
The word surrender?
That word I don’t know.
So you go ahead and lurk behind each bush,
wasting days in your futile pursuit.
All you’ve managed to accomplish all this time,
is to make my sense of smell more astute.
You leap for my back, you keep missing.
You land flat on your face, yet keep trying.
You’ve not latched onto me yet,
nor took me down.
I’m finished with my running and crying.
If you haven’t managed to infest my mind,
after these years of your devoted attention,
then go away, crazy, I‘m too sane for you now,
and your chase, never more shall I mention.”
