Holding Us

One embrace can change your mind, change your heart and make you remember…..

Would you hold me,

please?

Then hold me tighter?

Don’t tell me what I should do,

or what I could’ve done, hon’,

(‘though it seems so clear to you.)

Not right now…. not in this moment,

don’t you tell me it ‘ll be all right.

Don’t offer possible solutions,

and for God’s sake let’s not fight.

I’m not asking for the words “I love you”.

I wouldn’t feel the words right now.

I don’t want your prayers or your pity,

just hold me close,

then closer still, somehow.

Show me you can see in these eyes,

the ocean of hell begging to be quelled.

Ten minutes of your time, that’s all I ask,

to rest in our safe harbor and be held.

I don’t need charity or suggestions,

your great opinion or some sage advice.

Let us have one silent, real embrace,

and let it shatter our walls of ice.

Let four arms mend the schism of two hearts,

and remind us who we were, so long ago.

For all we’ve been and forever may be,

my love,

hold me close, don’t let us go.
