We Night Creatures

….the darkness inside threatens to envelop every person. It only takes the right aggravating factors to break us. We are all made of all things, it’s all found inside you. Choose well.

I’ve slumbered,

I’ve slowly stumbled,

into that place I once fled from.

My senses became immune to my senses,

my exposed skin, cold and numb.

My eyes have ceased their seeing.

My ears too, fell dull with time.

I must awaken from this slumber now,

to acknowledge every crime.

Your head,

you hang it so low.

You thought you knew me well.

May you never fully understand,

this brew of my own hell.

For we night creatures

become adept,

at hiding from your light,

and we can take all of our wrong,

and somehow make it right.

We practice the craft of denial,

and perfect the art of self delusion,

to muddy up what should be clear,

with excuses and confusion.

We run in packs

and hunt as one,

while savoring our prey,

but, oh, how the light,

becomes so bright,

when darkness falls away.

The intimacy of our dismay,

a select few understand.

Woe to all,

who see only our beauty,

and try to capture it in their hand.

For the most beautiful blade,

will still cut deep,

though it has no intent or will.

We can love with our hearts,

with the whole of our parts,

yet this sharpened blade can kill.

You love,

but know not what you’re loving.

You grieve for one who was never here…

and I can not bear

the daylight’s glare,

though it’s the darkness I most fear.
